Building Bridges of Understanding

In response to the growing anti-Muslim sentiments within this country, Jackie Adams and Dr. John Syster led a 4-session Introduction to Islam class.

The sessions addressed the common roots of Christianity, Judaism and Islam; the history of Islam; the Qur’an; core Islamic principles; common misunderstandings about Muslims; and current incidents relative to the Islamic faith.

At the final session of the class, our guest speaker, Ruta Journian of the Sarasota Bradenton Islamic Society, enlightened us with her responses to our numerous questions and engaged us in a lively dialogue.  Follow-up activities to further build bridges of understanding are in the planning stages.
